Plain definitions of the terms we use most. Share them with your team.

Neuromarketing
The use of neuroscience and psychology to understand how people respond to brands, ads and products, often below conscious awareness, and to design marketing that changes behavior.
SEO (search engine optimization)
Improving a website’s technical health, structure and content so it ranks higher in search engines like Google and Bing.
AEO (answer engine optimization)
Structuring content as clear questions and direct answers, supported by schema markup, so search features and voice assistants can show it as the answer.
GEO (generative engine optimization)
Making a brand easy for AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews to understand, trust and cite in their answers.
Eye-tracking
A research method that records where people look on a page, package or ad, and for how long, to show what gets attention and what is missed.
Emotional response testing
Measuring how strongly people react to creative, using biometric signals and structured feedback, to predict which version will be remembered.
Cognitive load
How much mental effort an experience demands. Lower cognitive load makes websites and apps easier to use and more likely to convert.
Sensory branding
Designing a brand for more than one sense, such as sound, touch or scent, so the experience is more memorable.
